Tier Sheets Are Good For All Your Transportation Needs

By Leticia Morton

Tier sheets is a thin pallet sized sheet that is made of heavy laminated Kraft paperboard, plastic or sometimes corrugated fiberboard. It is used as a unit load support device delivery of vehicles and transportation of products. The structural strength of the sheet supports the weight of the product load when they are supported by a a pallet board, conveyor surface and a flat load carrying surface.

There are some benefits that result from using the slip sheet. For one, using them instead of the wooden pallets makes it possible for more products to be put into the material handling containers. This is because they do not use as much space as the traditional ones did. They also do not require any maintenance as they are easily replaced. Another thing is that they are way lighter than wooden pallets and thus reduce the shipping costs.

There are two types of the sheets. The type is usually determined by the number of lip extensions and the material that it is made up of. Conventionally the shape and dimension of the sheet is determined by the size of the product or of the load. You can choose the different types according to the desired use of the sheet.

One of the two types of the slips is the single lip sheet. This has only one lip which is facing the narrow part of the unit load that is rectangular in shape and the door of the truck used in delivery. This lip maximizes the utilization of space in the loading and unloading process of the delivery truck. It also minimizes path clearance.

We also have the multiple lip slip sheet. This one is generally used on a container which is placed on a delivery vehicle of the ocean or a rail car during the required patterns of loading and unloading. This makes it possible for the device used to have various loading and offloading options. This will be determined depending on the pattern of all the lips remaining.

There are handling options when it comes to the transportation of unit loads. The first one is leaving the lips extended so that there would be travel path clearance. The second option is to tap the lip against the unit load in case there are more activities in push pull required. The other option is to cut the lip after there are no more activities.

When looking for a particular design in a slip sheet there are certain factors that should be considered. One of them is the size, weight and dimension of the of the unit load that is awaiting transit. The method of storage is also another factor of consideration. The third consideration that is equally important is the conditions present during transit, for example the humidity, temperature and moisture.

It is important that you have the necessary knowledge of the sheets if you deal with them. Do not be lazy when it comes to finding the best and necessary design for the sheet. Tier sheets are good for all your transportation needs.
