The Benefits Of Knowing How To Make Alfredo Sauce

By Gerald Hipps

Every family has their go-to recipes for when they need to supply food for an event or cook for guests. Alfredo dishes are a great standard recipe because almost everyone enjoys them and there is a lot that can be made from the sauce. However, you may have never considered learning how to make Alfredo sauce before. This is something that should be made from scratch whenever possible for a number of reasons.

All practicality aside, the taste of a homemade meal will always dominate that of one that comes from a jar or a box. Homemade condiments and dishes will simply boast complexity of flavors and richness on the palate that cannot be matched by a pre-made alternative. Best of all, Alfredo sauce takes only a couple of minutes and very few ingredients to whip up, so it is not necessarily more difficult than using a jar of topping.

Others are under the illusion that it is simply easier to keep the jarred alternative and that it has a longer shelf-life. The reality is that while one takes up shelf space, the other merely takes up freezer space. In fact, homemade sauce can last months in the freezer and tastes just as good after it has been defrosted. As long as it is refrigerated soon after it is made and stirred while it is warmed, you will find that the quality keeps well.

Alfredo dishes are often off-limits to those who are trying to lose weight. However, if a person chooses to make the sauce from scratch, he or she can opt for fat-free or reduced-fat cream cheese or cream when making the recipe to make it easier on the body. This is a benefit that is not available with packaged versions, especially because they are chock full of preservatives in order to give them their trademark shelf life.

Finally, while it might seem extremely inexpensive to buy jars of condiments for a dollar or so, it is actually not very cost-efficient. These jars have very little volume as it is, and with the inflation of the dollar, companies are sneakily making their packaging smaller and smaller. Though it might have a higher initial cost to buy the ingredients up front, your money will go a much longer way because they will make much more sauce that will taste much better.

If you know how to make Alfredo sauce, you know it also requires only three or four ingredients. Thus, it is a simple alternative and with the smallest amount of effort, it really goes a long way. It is a great way to make heart-healthy food choices by lowering salt intake and even fat intake if desired. It also makes tons of high-quality food that can be frozen for months to come and used on a variety of dishes.
