By Kyle Piraino

Physical appearance is important to a lot of people. Looking good can help you in life in a lot of ways. It raises your confidence, which can help you get a job, or talk to that girl you have been too scared to talk to. Nice hair, nice clothes, and nice skin are important factors of looking good. Dry, irritated skin can be something that is overlooked, but is also just as important as other things.

There are a lot of causes for dry skin. Some are more environmental and some are more medical. One of the most common reasons is cold, dry weather. This is the most logical reason, but dry weather in the winter can cause your skin to become dry and irritated. Even personal heating doesn't help, humidity in the air is what will help this situation.

Normally you think of a shower as being soothing and good for your skin, but there are a lot of reasons that a shower can cause skin to become irritated that you wouldn't expect. One of these being that a hot steamy shower can dry up the natural oils in the skin that keeps them smooth and irritation free. Lowering the temperature slightly can help.

Soap is a big part of whether you have smooth, silky skin or red, dry and irritated skin. Some soaps use artificial ingredients to help them smell better, but this can be the reason that they are irritating skin. The remedy this, use soaps that are made especially for moisturizing so that it does not bother the skin any more than it should.

Different types of substances that are put on skin on a daily basis can cause a lot of irritation. Perfume is a big reason that people have skin irritation and they don't even know that it's causing it. Detergent and fabric softener are also things that people do not realize can hurt their skin and make it become red and irritated.
