By Odessa Lundell

Quite a few people can wolf down calories with out ever gaining weight. I, sadly, am not apart of this group of people. Searching for ways to improve my metabolic rate has been challenging with time constraints but it is possible!

Our metabolic rate is basically the rate where our body breaks down fat, protein, and carbohydrates so as to sustain the needs of our system. Every person is distinct and has various requirements based on their age, weight, height, day-to-day activity, genetics, and eating plan. If you are looking at the word genetics with a sinking emotion, only 5% of our metabolic rate comes from genetic makeup. There's hope that you can alter your body and your metabolism. This will require work but it will be worthwhile in the long run.

The first step is to clear that eating habits. I cannot stress point enough. Our diets create our bodies structure. Another reason to eat healthy is that high protein diet foods take almost double the amount of energy to breakdown than carbs and fat. Choose lean sources such as chicken, fish or vegan alternatives to reduce the fat content on your protein selections.

Second step, hit the weights! Utilizing greater weights than what you normally use will heighten the amount of calories you use the entire day. You don't only get that awesome after burn, but building up muscle involves burning more calories all day long. However, keep in mind that a number of websites will overestimate this amount considerably. The level of calories for each pound of muscle burn is around 6-10 calories/pound. So when you gain 10 pounds of muscle that would be 320-700 extra calories per week, 4-12 pounds over a year period! That does not seem like much but if you add cardio and healthier nourishment to the mix it could add some considerable loses! Our metabolism makes us what we are as much as body composition. Working with your metabolism instead of against not only will it cause you to feel better but also shed some lbs in the process. Changing eating habits and making these alterations to add little exercise throughout the day will add up and inturn make you a better version of yourself.
