Sertraline Information

What is sertraline?

Sertraline is an antidepressant in a team of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Sertraline affects chemical substances in the mind that may turn out to be unbalanced and trigger melancholy, panic, anxiousness, or obsessive-compulsive signs and symptoms.

Sertraline is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Sertraline may also be used for functions not outlined within this medication manual.

Important info about sertraline

Do not take sertraline if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as furazolidone (Furoxone), isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur, leading to serious side effects.

You may have ideas about suicide when you first start using an antidepressant such as sertraline, especially if you are younger than 24 years outdated. Your doctor will require examining you at normal visits for a minimum of the first 12 months of therapy.

Treatments for depression are getting better everyday and there are things you can start doing right away.

SSRI antidepressants might cause severe or life-threatening lung problems in newborn babies whose mothers take the medication during pregnancy. However, you might have a relapse of depression if you quit taking your antidepressant during pregnancy. If you're planning a being pregnant, or in the event you become expecting while using sertraline, don't stop using the medication without initial talking to your physician.

Before taking sertraline

Don't use sertraline when you have utilized an MAO inhibitor such as furazolidone (Furoxone), isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the final 14 days. A hazardous drug interaction could happen, leading to serious negative effects.

Do not use sertraline if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as furazolidone (Furoxone), isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur, leading to serious side effects. You must wait at least 14 days after stopping an MAO inhibitor before you can take sertraline. After you stop taking sertraline, you must wait at least 14 days before you start taking an MAOI.
