Helpful Advice For Coping With Your Anxiety

By Paige Franco

Are you a prisoner of your stress and anxiety? Do you find yourself letting simple issues and problems, grow into insurmountable odds that leave you paralyzed with doubt and fear? It does not need to be like this. If you really want to move forward with your life, and handle your anxiety, take heed of the suggestions found ahead.

Learn to say "no." Much of the anxiety that people suffer from comes from trying to do too much in too little time. Prioritize your life, and accept the fact that no one person can do it all. When you start being able to tell people "no," you can start regaining control in your life and focusing on the things you need to accomplish.

Take the time each day to devote to you and reflect on enjoyable past experiences or go for a nice walk. Use this time to completely let go of all of your built up anxieties and stresses. Positive thinking and exercise will release endorphins that combat the anxiety and stress that builds up in your mind and in your muscles.

Sometimes people find it helpful when going through therapy to treat their anxiety to keep a journal on a daily basis. Write what you feel and note the date every day. Over time you will be able to look back and notice the considerable progress you have made in your battle against anxiety.

It is okay to cry if you are depressed, or anxious. If you feel like crying, then you need to express yourself, and let those emotions out. There is a reason our bodies are designed to have tears, and to cry. It is so, that these emotions do not get trapped inside us, and cause bigger problems.

Find a hobby. When your mind is idle, it is free to worry. Instead of sitting and dwelling on whatever is making you anxious, find something that you enjoy doing to serve as a distraction. If you don't have a hobby already, start looking for one. Whether you start knitting, constructing model cars, or restoring old furniture, you give your mind something to focus on besides the fear. As a bonus, having a hobby that you enjoy can reduce your stress levels all around.

When you are suffering from high anxiety and stress, your body may keep you awake, at times, and cause insomnia. There are a number of natural sleep aids on the market that can help you sleep, or you can go to the doctor and try using a prescription that can help you get the sleep your body needs.

Learn diversion tactics to break your mind out of an anxious pattern. Try counting to 100 quickly, or do math problems in your head. Splash your face with cold water, and keep moving. Try doing something physical, even if it's just moving things around. Remind yourself that anxiety is nothing but a collection of sensations, and they cannot harm you.

Try these different methods, and remember that if a technique does not work for you, you should move on to the next one. It is important that you make conscious efforts to keep your stress under control, and that you really focus on the relaxing technique you wanted to try when you feel anxious.
